Personal story Philip van Manen

Introduction
I am Philip van Manen, Senior Manager within Boer & Croon's Solution Finance & Technology, where I started in March 2024. I switched to Boer & Croon because of their challenging assignments in the dynamic pension landscape. With my background in institutional asset management and risk management within the pension industry, I sought new challenges and growth opportunities. Boer & Croon is known for its deep involvement in complex strategic issues and transformations in the pension sector. The opportunity to apply my skills to various challenging projects at Boer & Croon appealed to me greatly.

Background and Experience:
I have over ten years of experience within various pension administration organisations, focusing on asset management activities. With eight years of experience in risk management, I am well-versed in identifying, assessing and managing risks within financial institutions. I also have extensive experience executing and coordinating asset transitions and onboarding asset managers.

Daily Tasks and Responsibilities:
A typical working day at Boer & Croon is varied and depends on ongoing projects and priorities. My daily routine includes project and stakeholder management, proposal development, analysis, and strategy development focused on pension transformations and organisational changes. I regularly meet with team members to discuss project progress, solve problems and generate new ideas. Every working day brings new challenges and requires flexibility to respond effectively to changes within the dynamic pension world.

Success stories:
A comprehensive transition project I am part of is preparing a pension administration organisation for the changes following the introduction of the WTP. The aim is to future-proof services and transfer customers to a new implementation in a controlled way. The organisational change was carried out in cooperation with managers, with intensive working sessions and consultations resulting in a new vision and structure within a few months. The Works Council was closely involved throughout the design process, allowing any objections to be resolved early on and the Works Council advice and consent process to proceed effectively. Management's final plans were tested against predefined criteria, and a final organisational design was established. The first implementation steps were completed, and the organisation was gradually prepared for the future.

Collaboration and Teamwork:
At Boer & Croon, teamwork is critical. Our mission is not only to come up with solutions but also to actually realise them. I work closely with my colleagues on the F&T team and have many contacts with other teams within Boer & Croon. The open and helpful culture here ensures I can always turn to someone for advice. By supporting each other and pursuing common goals, we deliver practical and innovative results.

Vision for the future:
The pensions market is changing rapidly, with developments such as the Future of Pensions Act (Wtp) becoming increasingly important. I see great potential in helping clients adapt to this new reality and maximise WTP's opportunities. I want to continue to learn and grow in the coming years by carrying out various transformation projects within the pension industry and beyond so that I can grow professionally and personally.
I want to work closely with pension funds and administrators to guide them through the transition to the WTP's new requirements. This means I will not only provide strategic advice but also be actively involved in implementing new structures and processes.

Corporate Culture and Working Environment:
At Boer & Croon, I experience a culture of deep collaboration and support. From my first day at work, I have noticed how colleagues actively contribute to an environment where everyone is encouraged to grow and learn from each other's expertise. The most valuable aspect of my experience here is the opportunity to regularly gain new perspectives and insights, which has significantly enhanced my professional development.
